TERRA MATER

Final Year Design Collection

A summation of my university studies that showcases my refined illustrative style, Terra Mater is my final graduating collection of playful textile surface designs. Exploring urbanised city life, and vibrant scenes of Marrakech, the concept compares the different ways in which humans now live and interact with one another. Using subtle visual references to the various ways human living has impacted earth, the designs appear cheerful and celebratory within the aesthetic, but bear a darker undertone.

Terra Mater utilises both contemporary and traditional repeat pattern making techniques. The ‘Rear Window Ethics’ design, depicting a busy urban cityscape, was painted as a whole half-drop repeat pattern plate. The hand painted wallpaper design ‘No More Mr. Night Sky’ aims to illustrate the effect of light pollution over cities, and how the stars fade into an orange glow over populated cities.

The prints are designed for the use of surface application, with no certain suggested use (applicable for homewares/giftwares etc).
